Congratulations to Dr. Binsiya Kallingal on successfully defending her Ph.D. dissertation, “Evaluating Soil Organic Carbon and Health Trajectories During Grassland Establishment Across Spatial Scales.”

Her research examined how converting cropland to grassland can influence soil organic carbon and how different organic establishment strategies affect soil health during native warm-season grass establishment. Using a continental-scale synthesis along with field studies in Tennessee and Arkansas, her work showed the importance of establishment practices, particularly reduced tillage and smother crop residue retention, for improving soil carbon and nutrient availability.

Congratulations, Binsiya, on this major milestone. We wish her continued success in the next chapter of her career.
